Narrative: "Through a Corridor dappled in light and shadow, a Woman weighs her moral conscience; lured by the warmth of the sun; She walks into the light."
My aim is to create an Architectural space that allows for this process of Contemplation to occur. In effect my spaces adopt a temple-like quality, where the intention of contemplating can be nurtured and shaped.
The siting of this architecure I have located at Milford Sound, in New Zealand. We focus particularly on a steep mountain side in the area. I believe when one is contemplating, they wish to be alone, and to be distanced from the urban environment. An isolated environment such as this mountain allows a contact with Nature, and brings them closer to Christ, The Great Universal Teacher. This is a positive influence on the troubled individual. Milford Sound being adjacent to a deep lake, I have relandscape my site to incorporate three channels that correspond to the three spaces. Water is a pure and healing element, when hearing the ripples of the water against the mountain, the persona is uncounciously affected by the powers of nature.
Just like in my Painting, where the diagonal shaft of light divides the Painting into light and darkness. In my Architecture, I have tried to use light and shadow to symbolise the good and the bad morals and aspects of life.
A good person, with a moral centre is one that is in balance. Therefore, in a symbolic manner, my spaces, especially in the First and Second upon entry, light and shadow strive to be in a state of balance.
The first space to the Right, is almost like a tower. It is an enclosure with very thick walls that closes you off from the exterior world. The continous thin window, is placed to frame the body and the mind, when the light enters this window and falls on the Persona, one is reminded to focus on oneself, and encouraged to adopt a self-awareness.
We then venture into the second space, here light has undergone a system of filtering. Our first barrier to the light is a latticework, followed by a solid wall, colonnades and eventually an enclosure tucked beneath the mountain. This gradient of light and shadow, is put forth before the persona, almost as a reflection of her mental state. Her undecisive state between good and bad. Here, she had a choice to linger in the womb of darkness, beneath the mountain. Or take positive steps towards the unveiled light, culminating at the facade opening of the space. There she would be confronted with unspoiled nature, that in itself a pure influence and guidance from God.
Our Persona in the Painting, has revealed to us her concious decison to move into the 'light' and adopt a good moral standing as she stands beside Christ and shares the lit half of the Painting with him. Thus, in my Architecture, I reflect this, with the Persona venturing into the thrid space with a dematerialised ceiling, representing a yeilding to the positive influence of the heavens and a departure form the Material.
After a journey through these spaces, our Persona is at Peace. She walks freely out into the open landscape, from the opening made for her in the Third space.

Strength: I think my strengths in this assignment is in my Narrative, and the translation of my narrative from painting to design.
Weakness: I have a weakness in my model, and the absence of light studies, however all architectural expressions can be found in the drawings.
Improvement: I need to improve on time management and my model making skills.
